Elise - this is SO good. As a fellow Rohrite, I loved all the words of his you shared. I LOVE that made people aware of the etymology of apocalyptic. I believe we must lean into the pain and try to be aware of the Spirit’s work among us and within us.

Thank you! There is nobody like him. So clear, so wise, so inclusive AND transcendent.

Thank you so much for expressing - yet again - what I know to be true in my heart and soul. It gives me great solace to know I’m not alone! ❤️

Being able to live with and accept uncertainty requires me to constantly reassure myself: "I am here. It's okay. I've got you." That Little One inside of me is so scared of Disorder. Reassuring self-talk is the Reordering of Self.

These long cycles are hard, hard, hard. They are seasons that transcend our individual lifetimes. The balancing act then becomes holding hope for the future of humanity while finding community and comfort within which to exist and live an individually fulfilling life… every breath of which will likely be taken while civilization is in the disorder phase of the cycle.

YES!! This reminds me of the relational idea of Connection - Disconnection - Repair on the cultural level instead of 1:1.

i lived in venice ca in the early 2000. arriving in the mid 90’s post earthquake and riots, the fulcrum of change y2k and 911. a pregnant woman had been accosted outside her home and brutally stabbed to death. our neighborhood held a collective shock energy and we gathered nightly in front of her home. no one had a prayer or song in our mouth. no cry came up and out of the crowd. we just stood there. dumbfounded. our cultural rituals around death and loss have been decimated. siloed into our screen experiences, the natural responses to just about anything except sports teams winning is numbed and internalized. we’ve become spiritual analysts with no dance or wail or song to express. in place of any kind of residual collective ritual is a kind of paralyses coated in new ageism amber substitute for grief. i’ve witnessed my black great aunts fall out in the church, held up and fenced in by sturdy bodies of other church goers. just pure body and voice expression. grabbing falling holding weeping crying out. talk about clearing the air! my prayer is that if most of this terrible crisis is negligence that some leadership courageously steps in and helps alleviate the anxiety of the city.

and if this is arson and negligence(which i believe it is)may there are cells

of wise elders whose voices and presence are respected enough to steady the field. the earths very flesh 3rd degree burned. may we grieve for her too and all her blessed children.

Elise, I think you are so right about Trump being the forest fire that is burning it all down. I look forward to hearing what Loretta Ross has to say as political differences have really taken a toll in my extended family since the first election. I’ve decided to approach things differently this go-round and your perspective has really helped me reframe a lot of things—thanks for that. I just bought The Wisdom Pattern, by the way, to add to my collection of the many books you’ve recommended that now live on my bookshelves!

You'll love her book, it's beautiful and brilliant...and the second half is practical ways to approach those with whom we disagree with the goal of having a fruitful conversation...or at least leading to more understanding.

Thank you Elise for sharing your wholehearted wisdom, and that of Richard Rohr, at a time when you and your family are in the thick of difficulty. Your words here capture the essence of the intangible cord we must hold on to, our hands linked to stay strong and our hearts bound to the image of a better world.

It's so true that it's very difficult to identify the pattern when we are in it, whether it's on a micro or macro level. When we can't see the forest (that is burning) for the trees we must look at the next right step and show up fully to take it.

Yes, so scary and dark, but of course it makes perfect sense. I hope we can find community in this transition and overcome the feeling of being alone in it.

Well this piece is eerily similar to what I wrote about the astrology and mythology of Sedna, and the parallels to the plunge into spiritual consciousness. Synchronicity! https://open.substack.com/pub/marialuzorourke/p/sedna-in-gemini?r=ej3bv&utm_medium=ios
