There's so much focus on technology and social media making younger generations unhappy and anxious, but I think it's a combination of that with what you are speaking of here. The sensation of being out in the world alone instead of belonging to something bigger and more meaningful. And when you can't figure out how to make your own "brand" or self feel or seem important while also not connecting with something larger, it can lead to anxiety and depressed feelings.

Hi, Elise! Thanks for this. I will look up "The Wisdom Pattern". I saw the Soror Mystica podcast released an episode today called "The Cosmic Egg"--now I must go and listen. I LOVED this interview with Joy Harjo talking about the af Klint "Tree of Knowledge." There's so much to say. First of all, I just read Karen Horney's book "Neurosis and Human Growth" -- her conclusion as a therapist is all about the power of dreams. Then, "The mind is a field of its own." What a line. Love how Harjo holds "knowing"/intuition with craft. Fantastic conversation on duality and shifting consciousness over age to agelessness. It relates to my new review so I will post it with thanks when that comes out. Love and laughter from one "beloved rascal" to another.

So much to contemplate here; I'll need to read again and again! Thank you for the insights!

I may be missing something very basic but I need to know what a Richard Rohr stan is!?

Mega-fan!

I had to look it up. Apparently a stan is a combination of “stalker” and “fan.”

Thank you for weaving and sharing this bit of brilliance. I feel its fundamental truth in my bones. So many of us wrestle with a persistent sense of unworthiness. And we often look for the ME reasons or fragmented interpretations of WE for answers. The prolific Father Rohr channels truth from some higher place and I am grateful for his persistent efforts to explore and communicate in a frame we can process.

He is really something. Not only pulling it down, but then making it so accessible and clear. What a gift.

Fellow Rohr Stan here too! So much so that years ago I submitted a request to the goop pod for you to interview him ha. The language choices and the way you both can speak about complex, heavy themes in ways that feel approachable but thought provoking have always reminded me of each other. I know he’s been laying low but a girl can still dream for the collab!

As someone who is in the messy middle of my memoir plus about reclaiming ourselves from Y2K evanglical purity culture: this whole essay really spoke to me. Thanks Elise.

Elise thank you, this is so helpful in trying to make sense of this time. I will re-read many times and am ordering Rohr’s book now.

I love Richard Rohr and this was incredibly helpful - to put words to this odd phase we’re in (between Disorder and Reorder). Thank you
