Words with Elise: Apocalypse

This one might surprise you.

Per the OED: From ecclesiastical Latin from Greek apokalupsis, from apokaluptein “uncover, reveal,” from apo-“un-” + kaluptein “to cover.”

This word carries heavy baggage—cue the Zombie Apocalypse—but its root is actually beautiful and essential. While these times feel apocalyptic, it’s because of transparency and seeing what’s previously been hidden. Sometimes it sucks to see—there are plenty of times when I want to stick my head in the sand like an ostrich—but this is part of the process.
